Same thing happened to me last year but I didn't know what caused the reaction. Had the same problem again only last week while pruning the Deua Flame. Would like to know what treatment Susan had in order to treat my symptoms as doctors are at a loss

Hi Linda, That's interesting information to know. This is one of my favourite Grevilleas as it is ornamental and flowers for long periods. It should take the Calafornian heat without a problem. Just make sure you give it water on hot days until it's established and then it will be fine after that. Also being a Grevillea, make sure you keep the fertiliser away as they don't like the phosphorus.

I bought this plant at the Ace hardware store in Davis, California. I was looking to replace my Chinese Lantern and they didn't have any and this looked similar. I was excited to read it's history and hope it will do well and can take the 90'+ summer heat here.

I'm sorry to hear that Susan. Some grevilleas can cause an allergic reaction. I've heard Robyn Gordon can be one as well.

The rhyolitica nearly put me in hospital for Xmas such was my allergic reaction to it when we planted one a few days before Xmas( & I am not usually allergic to plants) - creeping welts up my arms & onto my face. Not fun. Not a fan now.
