Not all the plants listed in the book will be available in Melbourne. Most nurseries carry a large range of Australian natives these days. Most Bunnings stores have a good range. Gardenworld in the east has a good range and in the west Green Planet Nursery in Sunbury has a very good range. Take the book with you, select plants that you like and then check if they're suited. Ashley at Green Planet gives very good advice.

Hi Aaron Thanks for the feedback. There are over 3,000 plants in this book. In the back of the book there is a very comprehensive list of all the plants mentioned with all the planting conditions etc that are relevant to each plant. There is also an interactive CD-ROM that you can use to quickly narrow down plants to suit you're conditions.
Probably the best way to use the book is to take it to you local nursery, find plants that you like and then see if they're suited to your conditions.
Remember, not all the plants in your local nursery will be suitable for your conditions. For example in Melbourne there are many Tropical plants that don't like frost or cold winters.

I ordered mine. Only problem with the book is i dont know what the plants look like. It's basically a list of latin names. Plus they arent all labelled on what planting conditions they need. For instance if i look at hedges they wont say what type of soil and how much sun.
